Kids today.... Kids today have it way too easy! I grew up back in the 40s and 50s. We had Stalin, Khrushchev, the NKVD (KGB), "Fellow Travelers," the "Red Menace" and enough Communist conspiracies to keep even full-blown loonies like ole' "Tailgunner Joe" happy. Just to feel safe enough to get out of bed in the morning we needed bomb shelters in the back yard, "duck and cover" drills in school, Conelrad (640 & 1240) on the radio dial, $600 screwdrivers and $10,000 toilet seats. However, although we lived under the constant threat of total nuclear annihilation (by the very weapons we had grossly overpaid for), we kept the world safe for the filthy, stinking rich with little more than macho rhetoric. e.g. "You pound you shoe on the desk one more time, Nikita, and you're gonna need a proctologist to tie it for you!" We had a billion or so mad-dog mean, nuke-packin' Commie fanatics working 24-7 to bury our butts. All you guys have is a few weird looking, flea infested third-world whackos who are so wet pants scared of us that they're afraid to show their ugly faces in public. It's hardly worth even having a Military-Industrial Complex these days, let alone dumping billions of our hard earned dollars into it. Heck, they haven't even used all the really neat stuff we gave them back during the so-called "Cold War." How about we do this? Since the "Defense Budget Scam Du Jour" seems to be connected to "Islamic Fundamentalism" (or whatever), when the last of the leftover Cold War ICBMs leaves the silo headed for Mecca, we'll talk. |
